Fit to be tied

Gorgeous photos of Japanese obis from Okinawa Soba on Flickr. I've only scratched the surface.  I could look at his collection of beautiful images of Old Japan for hours...maybe even days.


This is the famous geisha Terua. Born in 1896, her real name was Tatsuko Takaoka. She was a geisha at 13, went on to great fame and infamy, then retired as a Buddhist monk--the Chief Priestess of a temple in Kyoto. If you are interested, you can read more here.





Taisho-era bride. She has changed out of her traditional white wedding dress, or Shiromuku, and is seen here getting help changing into another embroidered silk kimono for the next round of ceremonies and greetings.


Tying the obi


Everything about this image is so beautiful. The textiles, the Japanese garden, the Japanese architecture...I love it.
